This recent body of work combines natural materials such as lichen and twigs with porcelain interpretations, creating sculptural ceramic concepts which explore the interplay between nature’s continual adaptations and the profound impact of human activity on our fragile environment. These ceramic ‘specimens’ are displayed in vitrine-style frames, giving a biological reference. Through this work, I aim to challenge perceptions of reality and illusion, presenting ‘morphotic’ growths that intriguingly blur the lines between the organic and the artificial, inviting deeper contemplation and dialogue about our relationship with nature, urging a reflection on sustainability and the delicate balance of life.

My practice is rooted in the technique of wheel throwing, where I explore the delicate balance between spontaneity and control in mark-making, currently focusing on manipulating the wheel-throwing process to create pieces that embody both intuition and intention. By blending coloured clays with thrown elements, I strive to harmonise composition and form, allowing each work to evolve organically while maintaining a structured aesthetic.

My wheel-thrown porcelain pieces investigate the relationships between mark-making, light, and movement, inviting viewers to engage with the interplay of texture and colour. Through this exploration, I aim to create works that reflect my creative journey while capturing the dynamic beauty of both the medium and the moment. I intentionally leave my pieces unglazed to highlight the inherent qualities of the material, emphasising its raw beauty and tactile nature.

My passion for ceramics began whilst living in Los Angeles, where I created an ongoing body of work inspired by the ocean's vibrant hues and the expansive Californian skies. I crafted delicate wheel-thrown porcelain forms, enhanced by intricate glaze interactions. Each piece was intentionally unique, reflecting its own character and story. This commitment to individuality allowed me to explore the medium's endless possibilities, resulting in works that resonate with the beauty of nature and the nuances of light and colour.
